This is a clean and friendly hostel that is located not to far from the main city center. The hostel provides accommodation in private or double rooms that can hold up to a family of four.
The airport, coach, and train stations are located within driving distance, so there should be no difficulty in travel to further destinations within New Zealand, or to other parts of the world. The Downtown Backpackers Wellington hostel is also located close to a local bus stop.
There is a continental breakfast available and it is quite filling. The continental breakfast is not the typical cereal that many places offer. The hostel is outfitted with wireless Internet, so you can send emails home if traveling with a laptop.
The Downtown Backpackers Wellington hostel caters to a younger crowd. It is great for young “Gap Year” students looking to party. Making friends while staying here should not be a problem.
What’s Good:
The best thing about Downtown Backpackers Wellington hostel is the price. This is hostel accommodation at one of the cheapest prices within New Zealand. While staying here, it is easier to travel to all of the tourist attractions within Wellington. The hostel does provide a choice of both coed and mixed dorms, for women who prefer to sleep in a women only dorm.
What’s Not So Good:
This would not be suitable accommodation for anyone other than backpackers who are just looking for a clean warm bed for the night. It would not be suitable for families with small children. It is also accommodation that is not suitable for a “romantic vacation” as the hostel has only the basic amenities in an effort to reduce costs. The beds provided here are the standard bunk beds, so anyone looking for a luxury stay should book a hotel instead.
